The best commuter bike helmets with features designed for comfortable, safe urban riding Quick list 1. Best overall 2. Best budget helmet 3. Best with bright lights 4. Best for road bike style 5. Best for gravel bike style 6. Best for skate style 7. Best for long hair 8. Best for scratch resistance 9. Best with e-bike certification 10. Best for locking up 11.The best commuter bike helmets aren't completely different from other helmets. After all, a bike helmet is a bike helmet and anything you buy has to meet rigorous safety standards for the location you buy it. That means the biggest difference when you look at this list is that there's a certain style that works with commuter bikes.Sometimes it trends a bit more sporty, and I've included an option that should feel at home on a weekend gravel bike ride, but there's also a utilitarian style which commuter helmets tend to gravitate towards. The helmets designed to commute day in and day out work better with the more upright style bikes that see frequent use as commuter options. Commuter bike helmets also often get additional lighting to add passive safety in high-traffic and low-light situations.

BMX: '80s pro Eddy King to race ABA Grands

Definitely, I owe many people and companies a huge thank you, beginning with Diamond Back Bicycles, Oakley, Intense BMX, Exustar Shoes, SixSixOne, GHP, GunSlinger Bikes, ODI grips, Dog Tags Designs, ABA, all my riding buddies in the 619, and foremost, Stay Strong and Stephen Murray. Following a twenty-one year hiatus from racing, retired pro racer Eddy King is back on a BMX bike. And his mission is simple: race the ABA Grands, rep Stay Strong and support Stephen Murray.Honestly, I was 3 years old when Eddy King put down his BMX bike to pursue a career in real estate. And the only time I had ever even heard his name was when someone was talking about the King brothers (Mike and Eddy), because I knew who his brother Mike King was. When you left the BMX scene to pursue a career in real estate, did you put your bike down and completely walk away? I did for many years while I focused on my real estate career. It would be only on occasional invite to grab a MTB and head out to the trails to ride with friends.I was rarely ever seen at a BMX track, until the kind folks at Diamond Back bikes gave me a bike this year.

NYC cyclists rage about horse carriages blocking new bike lane to Central Park

Fuming city bikers are calling a lane violation on Hudson Yards horse carriage drivers making their way to Central Park. Cyclists complain that the buggies are clogging up a newly widened stretch of bike lane on 10th Avenue between West 38th and West 52nd streets, forcing them to slow down or weave out of the pathway entirely. After that point, the bike lane again narrows and carriages merge back into normal car lanes.A Post reporter watched 15 carriages trundle down the heavily trafficked stretch on Friday, with 10 of them using the expanded bike path and five staying in the roadway.Cyclists are complaining that horse carriage drivers are clogging up a widened bike lane in Hudson Yards.

Full face helmets have come to commuting - do they belong? | Cycling Weekly

Wearing a cycling helmet whilst riding provides some protection in the event of an accident, but should we go further and consider a full-face helmet instead? These thoughts were prompted by The Beam’s range of full-face commuter and kid’s helmets. These are not like the aggressive-looking, motocross-inspired helmets that downhill mountain bikers use; rather they are much friendlier looking and remind me a little bit of Lego helmets. This can mean that motorists show helmet-wearing cyclists less care and that having to wear a helmet can put people off riding in the first place. Indeed, Cycling UK quotes U.S. and Australian studies where mandatory helmet-wearing was shown to reduce bike use significantly.Fortunately, in the UK, helmet wearing is not mandatory so you can make your own decision but it's fair to say that bike helmets have been adopted pretty much wholesale, so it is relatively unusual to see a cyclist without one.Bike helmets are not as old as you might think. They became readily available in a recognisable form in the early 90s, but weren’t adopted by the UCI until 2003, with the Giro d’Italia being the first race in which they were mandatory. In fact, the riders went on strike at the 1991 Paris-Nice when it was suggested that they should be worn, so it took 12 years for them to be accepted by the professionals.

Best e-bike helmets: E-bike specific safety and tech features | Cyclingnews

A buyers guide focusing on the best e-bike helmets on the market today, providing greater protection in line with the higher speeds e-bikes can attain. The best e-bike helmets add extra commuter-friendly features and extra protection for higher-speed, higher-momentum crashesThe best e-bike helmets aren't a must-have accessory, but they are a great thing to have when riding electric bikes. The reason for that is e-bikes travel faster and weigh more, creating higher forces and more momentum in the event of a crash. This is especially true in the US where e-bikes can legally travel up to 28mph.Beyond safety strategies, there are quality-of-life considerations as well when choosing a helmet for riding an e-bike. Most electric bike helmets are similar to our list of the best commuter helmets but when you don't have to work as hard for the speed you can travel, that changes things a bit.For those who want to get straight to the point, the Giro Camden MIPS is my favourite overall option while the Xnito helmet is similar but much lighter. If neither of those work for you, though, keep reading to see our full list of recommendations for the best e-bike helmets available today.

With the right cleats and compatible pedals, these cycling shoes can do double duty. It’s no secret that Peloton, the indoor cycling bike company, has become a winner in the quarantine economy. When stay-at-home orders began to go into place across the U.S., the New York-based brand (founded in 2012) saw its stock climb by 95 percent by early May.For many Peloton newbies, using the indoor bike is their first experience with cycling shoes — this writer included. It can be daunting to sort through the nuanced jargon of the cycling world, identifying the correct clips to use with specific bikes. To be clear, finding those multi-use shoes can still be an arduous task, and what it comes down to is making sure that you have the right pedal clips to go with the cleats that are compatible with your footwear. Peloton bike shoes automatically come with cleats compatible with their pedals. The Tri X-Speed IV for women is actually designed for triathlons and has a patented Ergo Air injected nylon and fiberglass outsole. It’s also compatible with both standard road bike pedals and the SPD system — but you’ll have to buy your own clips for either separately.
